A recalculation of the UK national average for genetic indexes among dairy bulls has seen Profitable Lifetime Indexes (PLI) reduce across the board. In the Holstein breed, PLI values are back by £142 to reflect genetic progress made in the national herd.

The base change is carried out by AHDB Dairy every five years and it was published on Tuesday along with results from the latest bull run.

Topping the genomic Holstein sires table is new entrant Genosource Captain with a PLI of £882. He ranks over 90 points ahead of second placed FB Kenobi Targaryen (PLI £790).

In the daughter-proven Holstein sires, Bomaz AltaTopshot retained top spot on £708.
