This year the Royal celebrated its 97th offering. Situated in the heart of Toronto the 10 day show attracts nearly 5,800 animals and 300,000 visitors.

One of the most prestigious competitions is the Masterfeeds supreme championship, which is broken up into both male and female. Here the champions of each breed along with a number of prequalified entries from other shows fight it out for honour, and a cheque of CA$2,500. Three judges took to centre ring to judge these two major classes, with a referee also appointed to make sure things ran smoothly.

Securing both the male and female supreme championship for 2019 were Angus animals. Taking the male title was Mich Wheatland Hicaliber 7197E. Born February 2017 this EXAR Classen 1422B-sired bull was brought out by Premier Livestock, MK cattle, Dudgeon cattle and Hasson livestock

In the female section, Hawthorne Fantasia came out on top. This 18 month old heifer sired by SAV 004 Density was brought out by Hawthorne Angus.

Over 1,000 beef cattle fill the stock barn for the first half of the show, with the dairy competitions held later in the week. This year’s beef show was the biggest in show history as to four of the main six breeds hosted their national finals. The Angus, Charolais, Limousin and Simmental breeds took over the shed, with a very strong show of Shorthorns also in attendance. Another big attraction is the national junior beef heifer show, where 400 young people took part.
