There is €300,000 available for initiatives relating to the promotion or development of food waste reduction projects. The Department of Agriculture (DAFM) is calling for initiative proposals under the 2020 Rural Innovation and Development Fund (RIDF).

The funding will enhance the work previously undertaken to identify, target and address the growing issue. According to the Department, Ireland generates over 1m tonnes of food waste each year.

The objective of these initiatives is to encourage innovative job creation and sustainable enterprise development.

Food waste

The call for proposals relates to the support of projects to reduce food waste generated by food businesses, retailers/wholesalers or suppliers in rural areas.

The deadline for submission of applications is 12 noon on 3 April 2020. Proposals will be assessed through a competitive process for funding.

Applications should be made via the "call for proposals" application form which is available here.
