Coillte has said it is not delaying the arbitration process with its farm partners and that it wants to “move quickly” with the process.
Mark Carlin, the managing director of Coillte, told a recent Oireachtas committee on agriculture that there is one case where a farm partner is moving towards arbitration.
“There are another six that are consented to arbitration, so there are seven cases in this sphere at the moment. I can categorically say we’re not delaying things. There’s no delay tactic we want to move as quickly as we possibly can on this,” he said in response to a query from TD Jackie Cahill.
When asked by the Irish Farmers Journal when the arbitration would begin, a spokesperson said: “Coillte does not have a definitive timeline at this moment, but the process is under way. Coillte is not in control of the timelines, but we continue to engage fully in the process and to meet all required deadlines.”
In February of 2019 this newspaper reported that 23 farmers were to sue Coillte as part of a dispute over forestry it manages on their land.
Coillte has a portfolio of 695 farm partnerships which account for approximately 12,800ha of forestry.
