A 54ac farm at Rathendrick, Carnaross, Kells, Co Meath, sold on Wednesday last week for €400,000 (€7,407/acre). The land is three miles from the M3 motorway with good road frontage and is all in permanent pasture. It has mature hedgerows, good fencing, a water supply and cattle handling facilities.

When it went to auction on Wednesday 13 November, it is reported some 52 people attended. There were two bidders in the room and bidding opened at €300,000. It went to €360,000 before it was withdrawn. After consulting with the sellers, the auctioneer tried again but there were no further bids. At that stage, negotiations were opened with the highest bidder, a neighbouring drystock farmer, and €400,000 was agreed.
