The Charolais breed were the last to go through the United Auctions ring in Stirling but were met with exceptional demand.

Along with two bulls selling for 25,000gns, a further 13 made it to the five-figure mark.

It was far from a few exceptional prices complementing the rest however, with a massive 117 bulls find homes on the day to sells for over £6,600. This average price is up nearly £600 on the previous year.

Such was the demand from commercial men, a total of 74 bulls sold for 5,000gns or more.

Securing the senior and overall championship the previous day – and in turn taking the joint top price of 25,000gns – was Glenericht Oasis. Brought out by the Drysdsle family, this son of the 12,000gns Caylers Gladiator ticked all the boxes for the pre sale judge Raymond Irvine. Following the show he described him as “a tremendous bull with style, a great head, very good on his legs, a real modern Charolais”.

Agreeing with his decision was successful bidder Danny Sawrij of Kedzlie Farm.

It proved a particular impressive day for Mr Massie who sold all four of his bulls to average over £14,000.

Mr Irvine’s decisions proved correct when his junior and reserve overall champion Elrick Outlaw matched this price tag to sell for the joint top.

Bred and Exhibited by Michael Massie, this 17-month-old bull is a son of the French-bred Maerdy Gouverneur while his dam Elrick Florida has already bred a Stirling supreme champion for the herd.

Securing the junior champion was Mr Biden of the Sportsman herd.

It proved a particular impressive day for Mr Massie who sold all four of his bulls to average over £14,000.

Following his joint top seller was Elrick Oxygen who sold for 15,000gns. This August 2018-born bull is the same way bred as the reserve champion being sired by Gouverneur and out of a Maerdy Dublin bred dam. This young bull heads to Northern Ireland to join Jonathan Crawford’s herd in Maghera, Co Derry.

Matching Oxygen at the 15,000gns price tag was the intermediate champion Elgin Oliver.

Brought out by Roy and Matthew Milne this son of Woodpark Elgin goes back on a dam bred by the sire of the supreme champion Caylers Gladiator. Securing this intermediate champion was Jenny and John Rix.

Hitting a price of 13,000gns was the top of Esmor Evans pen, Maerdy Osgood. This June 2018-born bull is a son of the 10,000gns Blelack Fabulous while the homebred dam is out of French bull, Froufrous. Securing this bull in a joint purchase was Major David Walter, Balthayock and C Smeaton, Kirkbuddoo.

A total of 10 bulls made it to 10,000gns, while a further seven sold between 9,000gns and 10,000gns.

Lyle was champion at the Irish Charolais Christmas Cracker back in 2016

The first to hit the 10,000gns mark and of particular interest to Irish breeders was Burradon Olaf from Chris Curry.

This 21-month-old bull is a son of Irish bred bull Clenagh Lyle who is available through Bullbank.

Lyle was champion at the Irish Charolais Christmas Cracker back in 2016, before he was purchased for the top price by Mr Curry.

The reserve intermediate champion also sold for 10,000gns and he came in the form of Balthayock Overdrive. Sired by the homebred Balthayock Impression he is out of Highland Show reserve female champion Balthayock Lisa.

The reserve junior champion title went the way of Tweeddale Orbit who also took home a 10k price. This young bull from Jonathan Watson is sired by the 28,000gns Maerdy Jerusalem.
