Brazil – China grants further access for Brazilian beef

Chinese authorities have cleared another 25 Brazilian meat plants to export product to China. This brings the number of meat plants in Brazil approved to export meat to China to 89. A total of 32 Brazilian beef plants now have access to the Chinese market.

US – Beef exports rise in July

US beef exports for the month of July came in at just under 118,000t, which is 1% ahead of the same month last year. This brings US beef exports for the first seven months of 2019 (Jan-July) to 766,600t, which is 2% behind last year.

Vietnam – African swine fever sweeps country

Vietnam has culled almost 5m pigs from the national pig herd in a bid to contain an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF). This equates to just under 20% of the 28m-strong pig herd in Vietnam. The first reported case of ASF was reported in February but has spread rapidly.

France – Wheat production to rise

The French agriculture ministry has raised its forecast for soft wheat production in the country to 39.5m tonnes for this season. The French agriculture ministry has also raised its forecast for barley production in 2019 to hit close to 14m tonnes.
