Kathy back on tracks again

It has been a long wait but Kathy Durkin is delighted that the release of her brand new album has finally come to pass.

The Cavan native, who hails from Butlersbridge, has a rare distinction for a well-known country artist. She was a member of the Cavan ladies football team that won the All-Ireland senior title back in 1977.

“Due to an injury in 2014, I have been in and out of the Irish country music scene, but I am glad to be back. I would like to thank my fans for their continuous support over the last 30 years, especially more recently when I was off the road,” says Kathy.

The album, Blue Transistor Radio, features 13 tracks and Kathy hopes they find general favour across the country scene. “It is a lovely feeling to see the project reach fruition. Some of the songs are familiar and some not so familiar but I hope people will take a liking to them.”

Among the better known numbers are Mississippi, Storms Never Last, Noreen Bawn, and Lay Down Beside. She included two songs composed by the Murphy sisters from Kerry, Streets of Promise and Connemara Marble Ring, as well as the Gerry Carney song, Cottage By The Sea. The lovely Roger Cook composition, On A Day Like This, is also on the album.

Kathy Durkin’s latest release is on Céol Music and further details are available by 042-974 6747 or checking www.ceolmusic.ie.

Noreen on a winner

Noreen Ashe is chuffed with the response to her latest song, Our Father’s Hidden Love. The Kerry singer has been taken by surprise with the feedback over the last few weeks.

“Since the video aired on Sky 376 Spotlight TV channel, I have been getting calls and messages from around the country and some from England, America and Canada.

“The song was written by Tommy James and Eddie Lee down here in Kerry and so many families can identify with the sentiments.

“It really is incredible and I am naturally delighted as it is the best response I have ever had to a song over the years,” says Noreen.
