The IFA is currently blockading Musgrave's central distribution centre in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

This marks the fourth blockade outside a supermarket distribution centre over the last week, with IFA president Joe Healy calling for an immediate rise in beef prices.

“We don’t have to wait for ‘price-setting Friday’ as stated by ABP," Healy said.

"Factories should increase prices today and we are driving home the message to retailers. “Tell your suppliers to treat farmers fairly.”

He pointed out that the Bord Bia Price Index shows the gap between Irish and main export markets has widened to 21c/kg. He also said that European Commission data shows that the UK price stands at €4.13/kg – 52c/kg ahead of Irish prices.
