Hennessy Auctioneers held its monthly machinery auction on Saturday, when over 700 lots went under the hammer.

While it drew a smaller crowd than usual, trade was still lively, with a 80% clearance rate of 700 items on the day. Some larger lots are still under negotiation.

Auctioneer John Hennessy told the Irish Farmers Journal: "Trade at secondhand machinery auctions this year to date has been strong but there are fears that the volatile beef industry will push a lot of farmers out of business.

"This will have a knock-on effect on second hand machinery sales."

Various machinery was on offer, including tractors, trailers, cultivation implements, toppers, fertiliser and manure spreaders.

All lots were sold subject to 5% commission, up to a maximum amount of €500 per item.

The next machinery auction is due to take place on Saturday 21 September, with entries now being accepted.
