The annual Tullamore farm heifer sale took place on Bank Holiday Monday evening, 28 October in GVM Mart, Tullamore Co Offaly.

Farm manager Shaun Diver presented 20 in-calf heifers for the sale, all of which were bred on Tullamore farm and born between February and April 2018. All heifers were scanned in-calf to easy-calving Limousin and Salers sires and are due to calve in February and March 2020.

This QCD Simmental heifer, weighing 725kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,720.

This Simmental heifer, weighing 565kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,650.

This ZAG Limousin heifer, weighing 570kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,580.

This ZAG Limousin heifer, weighing 545kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,560.

In terms of management, Shaun told the audience that "all heifers are genuine heifers, reared on their mothers until October 2018 and they were out wintered on redstart for their first winter".

All heifers were vaccinated for Lepto and BVD.

This Limousin heifer, weighing 525kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,480.

This QCD Simmental heifer, weighing 575kg and due to calve in mid-March to a Salers stock bull, sold for €1,460.

Overall, 16 out of 20 heifers sold, with an average price of €1,338 per head.

Lot 7 - This Lisnacrann Fifty Cent (Sim) daughter, weighing 595kg and due to calve in mid-March to a Salers stock bull sold, for €1,400.

This QCD Simmental heifer, weighing 650kg and due to calve on 7 March to EBY, sold for €1,380.

Eleven Limousin and Simmental continental-cross heifers averaged €1,466.

These ranged from €1,240 up to a sale-topping price of €1,720 for a 720kg QCD Simmental heifer due to calve in late February. Seven heifers made over €1,400.

This QCD Simmental heifer, weighing 555kg and due to calve in mid-March to a Salers stock bull, sold for €1,360.

This Limousin heifer, weighing 550kg and due to calve on 22 February to SA2189, sold for €1,300.

This ZAG Limousin heifer, weighing 485kg and due to calve in mid-March to a Salers stock bull, sold for €1,240.

This Angus heifer, weighing 520kg and due to calve on 25 February to EBY, sold for €1,120.

Angus-cross

Five Angus-cross heifers were on a different price tier, averaging €1,054. The range for these was €950 to €1,120 per head.
