Kelly’s of Borris are set to showcase Claas equipment at next week’s Ploughing Championships in Carlow. This will include the Claas Jaguar 970 self-propelled forage harvester and a range of tractors.

The 970 Jaguar is powered by a 16.16l V8 Man engine, producing a significant 775hp. This harvester is fitted with the new V-Max chopping cylinder that comes with various knife arrangements.

The drive axle is fitted with a double hydrostatic motor, allowing for a speed of up to 22km/h in first gear. On the road, the Jaguar can travel at up to 40km/h, but now at a reduced engine speed of 1,300rpm to save fuel.

Claas has also taken its fuel-saving approach to the field. When the pick-up is raised out of work mode, such as at a headland, the computer detects that the feed rollers are closed with no material between them and will automatically drop the engine revs from 2,000rpm to 1,400rpm, without affecting the forward speed.

Once the headland turn is completed and the pick-up is lowered again, the engine revs automatically return to 2,000rpm ready for the next swath.

Tractors

Kelly’s are also set to show a number of tractors, including the Arion 650CIS+, the 510CIS and the 420CIS. In terms of the Arion range specification, it starts off with CIS, then moves to CIS+, before hitting Cebis, the top spec.

The CIS+ is new to the Claas tractor offering this year. CIS+ is available with a continuously variable CMATIC transmission or a HEXASHIFT powershift transmission. The stand out offering in the CIS+ over the CIS is the electronic spool offering and the colour display built into the A-pillar.

The Arion 650 will be the largest Claas tractor on display. Powered by a 6.8l DPS PowerTech PVX engine, the 650 has a rated 175hp with a maximum 185hp on tap.
