Operated by Richard and Noel Kane of Kane Trailers, Irish firm SpreadPoint entered the spreader market 18 months ago.

Lamma 2020 saw the debut of the SP-900, SpreadPoint’s largest and highest-spec spreader to date. Up to now the range consisted of a 4m3 SP-400 and a 6m3 SP-600. Spreadpoint claims the SP-900 is the smallest and most manoeuvrable tandem spreader on the market.

The SP-900 has a dual-chassis design, meaning the body can be demounted for maintenance or fitment as a demount option. It shares the same features as the smaller spreaders such as the bearingless floor. The WeighPoint load cell system fitted is based on RDS technology and has full Isobus capabilities.

Spreadpoint said this system is variable-rate ready. It features a heavy duty spreading deck which comprises a hydro-mechanical drive system that powers two 6mm stainless steel discs and 6mm stainless steel flights.

The lifting front axle is possibly the first fitted to a spreader of this kind. The feature adds draught to the pulling tractor by raising the front axle when required.

LAMMA 2020 was also the first public outing of Spreadpoint’s salt spreading kit. This is a height-adjustable single disc designed for gritting. The firm said this way of mounting the disc units allows them to be changed over in 15-20 minutes.

Although the SP-900 is the new flagship of the SP range, the Irish Farmers Journal understands a larger model is due in late 2020. The SP-900 is priced at €60,000 plus VAT.
