A status red wind warning is in place for Co Kerry and a status orange wind warning is in place for seven other counties on Sunday 8 December.

As storm Atiyah hits the west coast, Met Éireann has predicted southwest winds that will veer northwest and average speeds of 80km/h with gusts expected to exceed 130km/h.

There is also a possibility of flooding due to a combination of high seas and storm surge.

The warning will remain in place from 4pm until 7pm on Sunday 8 December.

The counties included in the orange warning are Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Limerick.
