This year’s Cappamore Show started its classes with an open senior and junior calf interbreed championship.

The classes drew calves from all parts of Ireland, with many of last week’s Tullamore champions out in force again.

The senior class, in particular, contained animals which would stand proud in any show ring.

Rosette

Taking the championship rosette in this class was the stylish Limousin heifer Millburn Nightingale.

This Wilodge Vantastic daughter was born in September 2018 and also claimed a first prize rosette at last week’s Limousin national finals in Tullamore.

Nightingale was bred by Richard O’Beirne, Tuam, Co Galway.

This was only the tip of the iceberg for O’Beirne, as, later in the day, Nightingale's full sister Millburn Must Have went on to claim the Limousin and supreme show champion.

Standing reserve in the senior interbreed calf class was also a prizewinner at Tullamore, this time the Belgian Blue heifer Don Moriah.

Bred and exhibited by the O’Donovan family from Dunmanway in Co Cork, Moriah was tapped forward as Belgian Blue champion last week. Sired by Imperial, she is out of an Empire-bred dam.

Taking third in the class was the national Charolais reserve senior male calf champion Goldstar Orwell.

Brought out by the Ryan family from Thurles, this bull is a son of Goldstar Hugo 2.

This was a start of a very good run for the Ryan family, taking both champion and reserve in the junior interbreed calf class that followed.

Junior interbreed calf champion Goldstar Penny.

Goldstar Penny, a January-born daughter of Goldstar Echo. took pole position, while her full sister Goldstar Poppy had to settle for reserve.
