The deadline for nitrates derogation applications has been extended to Friday 24 April.

The Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed announced the short extension following consultation with stakeholders and to facilitate farmers in planning for the year ahead.

The Department has advised farmers to contact their agricultural adviser, by phone or e-mail, to determine if they should avail of this facility. Over 6,800 intensively stocked farmers availed of the derogation 2019.

Minister Creed said: “I would encourage more intensively stocked farmers to engage with this application process and discuss the need for a derogation with their agricultural adviser by phone.”

Derogation applications must be submitted online through agfood.ie.

Following a review of the derogation last year, there are a number of new rules and restrictions, which are detailed here.
