Cooleeny House and its 191ac farm in Longford was sold in its entire to a farmer with business interests, Irish Country Living understands. When it went to auction it was withdrawn at €1.61m. It is believed to have sold afterwards for a higher figure.

“We offered it up in various different lots and the 79ac was only making €300,000 and the rest of it was making €750,000. So then we put it all up together and it took off from there,” a spokesperson for James L Murtagh auctioneers said.

Anyone familiar with driving the road from Mayo to Dublin has passed this property on multiple occasions. The substantial 191ac farm is located on your right-hand side as you come out of Longford, with considerable frontage along the N4.

The entire farm is under permanent pasture. It is split by the railway line, but there is access between the two blocks. The property was guided at €1.2m, or €6,282/ac.

Cooleeny House, the residence located on the farm has five bedrooms, a bathroom, two reception rooms, a large kitchen, a rear kitchen and larder/scullery. The sale was handled by James L Murtagh Auctioneers.
