This Friday night, the reduction sale of the Tubridmore Angus herd, based in Kerry, takes place in Tralee Mart. The sale comprises of 40 lots made up of cows, heifers and young bulls.

Established in 1984, the Tubridmore name is often seen winning rosettes in the show ring, along with having a number of bulls sold to AI. Breeder Denis Twomey has also been to the forefront of Irish Angus Munster branch sales, taking both male and female championships on numerous occasions.

Many of the animals offered for sale are from the best of the herd’s breeding. Its long-time show cow Luddenmore Rosa Erica won a range of top accolades, along with producing a number of high profile daughters with the help of ET. Many of these direct daughters and descendants are offered for sale.

The Lady Blossom line, which originated in Canada, is also heavily featured in the catalogue and offers an outcross pedigree for most. The sale takes place at 7pm on Friday 11 October.

Moygara beef Shorthorn to host reduction sale

The Moygara beef Shorthorn herd, property of M and D McKeon, Co Sligo, is holding a reduction sale in conjunction with the Moyside/Croghan Shorthorn club annual show and sale on Saturday 19 October in Elphin Mart.

Shorthorns in Moygara date as far back as the 1950s when there was a full milking herd. However, it wasn’t until the noughties that pedigree beef Shorthorn breeding was introduced.

The foundation stock were five in-calf heifers purchased from the Whitecastle herd of the late Paddy and Tim O’Donovan, Schull, Co Cork. Three maiden heifers purchased at the dispersal sale of the late Art O’Connor and one in-calf heifer from the Highfield herd of the late John Moloney were later added.

The reduction sale includes 20 lots – 18 females and two males. Each of the animals has a five star €uro-Star rating.

Eleven of these females are sired by Ballylinney Eagle. Purchased privately in Scotland, this Chapelton Wildfire grandson was brought in to improve conformation and bring thickness into the herd.

As a result, Eagle sons were sold to commercial and pedigree breeders throughout Ireland.

Other sires whose progeny are up for sale include Buffalo Lake Blockbuster, Doom Erasmus, Creaga Thunder and Coxhill Karl.
