The Scottish Natural Heritage’s (SNH) national eagle management scheme panel is meeting crofters and local MSP Kate Forbes on 11 October.

The meeting is taking place to discuss crofters’ questions about sea eagles and their impact on livestock.

Earlier this year, SNH’s white-tailed sea eagle action plan for 2017-2020 stated that the birds can prey on healthy lambs, and crofters have previously raised the issue.

I think we all agree that it is incredible to see sea eagles along the Highland coastline

Forbes, the MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said: “I have called this meeting in response to crofters and farmers who have raised the issue of sea eagles with me.

“I think we all agree that it is incredible to see sea eagles along the Highland coastline and the reintroduction of the species has been relatively successful.

“SNH has been responsible for supporting crofters with sea eagles through the sea eagle management scheme, and I thought it was important to have an open discussion about the issue.

“I have previously spoken to Roseanna Cunningham about it, and she very helpfully suggested that I contact the national sea eagle management scheme panel.”
