Jennie Aherne has been appointed as the first female president of the Irish Simmental Cattle Society.

The Limerick native most recently featured in the Irish Farmers Journal following her judging at this year’s National Show in Canada.

No stranger to Simmental breeders and society members, Jennie has been heavily involved in the society for many years, including being one of six to run the temporary council since the original was disbanded back in January.

Jennie also played a major role in the development of the society’s current young members’ programme.

Farming in Cappamore, Co Limerick, she runs the Rubyjen herd, having played a key role in the development of her father’s successful Towerhill herd from a very young age.

Both the Rubyjen and Towerhill herds have produced numerous champions and high-sellers at society sales.

Along with judging in Canada, the Limerick woman also judged at society sales here in Ireland, along with the national Scottish Simmental show in Inverness.

Liam Martin was appointed as vice-president.
