Met Éireann has issued orange and yellow wind warnings for the country on Sunday, as Storm Atiyah tracks between Iceland and Ireland.

The storm is forecast to generate very strong winds across the country, with gusts of up to 130km/h in parts.

Orange warning

A status orange wind warning has been issued for counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick.

Met Éireann has said southwesterly winds - later veering northwesterly - in these counties will reach mean speeds of 65km/h to 80km/h, with gusts from 110km/h to 130km/h.

As a result of a combination of high seas and storm surge, there is a possibility of coastal flooding.

This warning is valid from 9am on Sunday 8 December until 6am on Monday morning.

Yellow warning

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for all of Leinster plus Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.

Southwest winds - later veering northwesterly - are forecast to reach mean speeds of 50km/h to 60km/h, with gusts of up to 100km/h.

This warning is valid from 3pm on Sunday until 6am on Monday.
