Ballinasloe Mart's sheep sale has been cancelled on Thursday evening ahead of storm Lorenzo. Ballinasloe mart manager Eilish Curley told the Irish Farmers Journal that they were closing as a safety precaution.

Gort Mart decided on Thursday that its cattle sale is going ahead.

A Teagasc farmer meeting that was due to be held at Mellows Campus, Athenry, Co Galway, has also been cancelled due to the storm.

Other events cancelled

The following farm walks have also been postponed for safety reasons:

  • The succession and farm partnership event due to take place in Waterford on Thursday 3 October has been postponed to 17 October.
  • Preparing for 2020 due to take place in Teagasc Moorepark on Thursday 3 October has been postponed until Thursday 10 October at 11am.
  • The CellCheck on-farm events due to take place in Laois on Thursday 3 October and Galway on Friday 4 October have been postponed.
  • The SBLAS farm walk in Mountbellew, Co Galway, that was due to be held on Friday 4 October has been cancelled.
