There was a top price of €4,500 at the last of the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s autumn sales in Tuam on Friday. Securing the top price was one of the first lots into the ring, Novinchristie Noah from Noel Barry, Swinford, Co Mayo.

This second-prizewinner in the pre-sale show is a son of Norman Inventor and carries a five-star terminal index and a calving figure of 3.4%. After a flurry of bids, Noah was acquired by Terence Keelan from Monaghan.

Judge James Kelly selected the champion of the show as Clewbay Neil. Bred and exhibited by Padraic and Ciaran Golden from Westport, Co Mayo, the pre-sale champion is a son of the well-proven bull Ampertaine Foreman.

Carrying five stars on both terminal and replacement indices, he was knocked down at €3,600 to Fermanagh-based James McCauley.

Standing reserve to the Golden duo was Rutland Nestor from fellow Mayo exhibitor Noel Ruttledge. Nestor is a son of Queenshead Altea and goes back to a Mullary Intrepid-bred dam. Carrying four stars on the terminal index and with a calving ease figure of only 3.3%, he was sold at €3,000.

The second-prizewinning Shannon Nemo also broke the €3,000 mark when he was knocked down at €3,100. Bred by Sarah McElligott, Listowel, Co Kerry, Nemo is sired by Damona, with Ampertaine Commander also in the back pedigree.

Predicted easy calving and with a five-star rating in most traits, Nemo was purchased by Joe Lowney, Beara, Co Cork.

The youngest bull to sell was Portauns Nigel from Laurence Lynch, Kilmallock, Co Limerick. Nigel has Ampertaine Commander, Sympa and Gamin in his sire stack. Henry Keane, Claremorris, Co Mayo, acquired Nigel for his herd for a price of €2,500.

Local farmer Padraig Linnane purchased Bunnymore Nathan from Michel Reynolds, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim. Nathan has Bavardage, Sympa and Mas Du Clo in his sire stack.

This third-prizewinner came to the ring with five-star ratings in many traits. Nathan was secured for €2,450.

Fourteen-month-old Carrowreagh Nasa changed hands for €2,400. Nasa was bred in Roscommon by Pat Bruen. By Bavardage, Nasa’s dam has Sympa and Ferry in her bloodline.

Having been awarded female champion on the night, she was secured by another Kerry breeder at €2,300

At the same money was Brookland Nowlan from John Hickey, Thurles, Co Tipperary. Nowlan is a son of Haltcliffe Gunner and the homebred Mas Du Clo dam Brookland Janey Mac.

Joe Lowney from Beara, Co Cork, purchased the second-prizewinner.

Topping the female trade was the Cavelands Jolly daughter Shannon Noramay from previously mentioned breeder Sarah McElligott.

Having been awarded female champion on the night, she was secured by another Kerry breeder at €2,300.

Overall, 60% of bulls met trade on the night, with 75% of the heifers selling.
