Agri Aware is the Irish agri-food educational body.

It is a charitable trust, funded by the Irish farming and agri-food industry.

The organisation works to create a national awareness of the value of modern agriculture and farming, educating people on the stewardship of the rural environment, animal welfare and the benefits of nutritional Irish food.

About the role

As a full-time education officer, your main duty is to develop and deliver curriculum-linked education programmes for schools, both primary and secondary level.

You will be responsible for developing new learning opportunities for transition year students.

Where possible, you will seek accreditation for these opportunities, to ensure maximum uptake on a national level.

In line with the most recent changes to the Leaving Certificate agricultural science curriculum, the chosen candidate will lead the process of updating Agri Aware’s Pastures New textbook for second level agricultural science students.

Another very important aspect of this role is the development of new digital and print learning resources for the Leaving Certificate ag science students.

Alongside other Agri Aware team members, you will also work to ensure the Agri Aware website material is up to date.

This role will require you to attend Irish Agricultural Science Teachers’ Association (IASTA) council meetings to ensure that you are up to date with all relevant changes, challenges and developments within the education and agricultural sectors and can act accordingly.

The chosen candidate will work to develop new key relationships and maintain existing connections with the appropriate persons and organisations, across both the agri-food and education industries.

Alongside IASTA, the education officer will co-ordinate the development of the popular Irish Farmers Journal Leaving Certificate ag science study guides.

Another important element of this role will be the facilitation and promotion of annual seminars to ag science students and their teachers.

This is a full-time position. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm.

About you

For this role, you must have a third level degree - preferably in the area of communications, agriculture or education.

It is also essential that you can confidently network with a number of relevant organisations and individual people.

You are an articulate person, with excellent oral and written communication skills.

The ideal candidate will be mission driven and self-directed in their work, in order to continuously assess and help develop Agri Aware’s various educational offerings.

A strong knowledge and appreciation for agriculture and the agri-food industry will be a real benefit in obtaining this role and should be made clear in your initial application.

You should also highlight any previous teaching experience in your application. If you have taught educational courses such as agricultural science, it may be an additional bonus point.

In summary, Agri Aware are looking for a skilled team player with a can-do attitude, who can contribute positively to the nation’s awareness of modern agriculture and farming.
