A 40ft container filled with an estimated €50,000 to €60,000 worth of beef has been recovered in Dundalk. The container had been stolen from a premises in the Red Lion Road area of Loughgall, Co Armagh, at 1pm on Friday 6 December.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal that a patrol car recovered the abandoned container in a carpark near Drumad, Co Louth. “There was no refrigeration on, so the whole container was beginning to smell of decay,” he said.

The container has been brought to Julianstown, where it is being detained for a technical examination.

No arrests have been made in connection with the theft.
