Americans will devour 1.45 billion chicken wings this Sunday while they watch the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers battle it out for the Vince Lombardi trophy at this year’s Superbowl.

The National Chicken Council said that this is enough wings for every man, woman and child in the United States to eat four wings each. It also said that if laid end to end, the 1.45 billion wings would stretch one third of the way to the moon.

This year’s chicken wing projection is flat compared with 2023, with the US Department of Agriculture reporting chicken production levels are down slightly from last year, the council said.

It added that wing stocks in cold storage were down 13% in November compared with the year prior.

It is estimated that a whopping 14 billion burgers will be cooked on the day itself at Superbowl watch parties around the country.

Pizza

Superbowl Sunday is one of the busiest days of the year for pizza maker Dominos.

Dominos typically sells over two million pizzas on game day – about 44% more than on a normal Sunday. It said the most popular pizza topping is pepperoni.

“While Dominos stores throughout Kansas City and San Francisco will see high sales at the beginning of the game, the city of the winning team will likely see higher sales at the end of the night,” the pizza maker added.

It is the second-biggest eating day of the year in America, coming second only after Thanksgiving.
