The farming community of north Dublin was saddened to hear of the passing of Paud Flynn of Paud Flynn & Sons, at his home in the Drummonds, Rush, Co Dublin. Born in Rush in 1931, Paud farmed there all his life. He and his wife Patsy had eight children; Gerry, Vinny, Laurence, Patricia, Padraig, Ann-Marie, Paul and Fergal. Unfortunately, two of their children passed away in their early years.

Paud set up a busy farm business with his brother Joe, growing potatoes, vegetables and tomatoes in the glasshouses. While Joe went on to work in the glasshouses, Paud worked in the fields. It was from these fields that his famous “Rush Queens” emerged, a stroke of marketing genius and a tag that lasts to this day.

He was joined in the business by his five sons, who continue to sell their famous potatoes all over Ireland. Paud retired from the business in 1994, but always kept an eye on things. While he suffered health setbacks in later years, he remained in good spirits and was always willing to give advice or crack a joke, even up to his final days. He will be sadly missed by all his family, neighbours, friends and the farming community.

Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
