Hereford

The Hereford breed reached new highs in 2019 when Gouldingpoll 1 Stockman sold for a new public auction record of €8,000.

This animal was sold at the first-ever Gouldingpoll Herefords production sale hosting by Matthew Goulding and family in Roscrea in October. This Gouldingpoll 1 Robust son is out of the Keepsake family line and carried five stars down the line. Securing the sale-topper was UK-based Cogent AI services.

Angus

Top-priced Angus Laheens Rebel for Cathal and Cormaic Duignan, which sold for €6,500. \ Tricia Kennedy

Securing the top Angus price of €6,500 was the reserve overall champion at the elite show and sale in December Laheens Rebel.

This stylish September 2018-born bull is sired by HF Rebel and goes back to a Rosemead Karona-bred dam.

From one of the herd’s most successful family lines, he was bred by Cathal and Cormaic Duignan. After back and forth bidding, the sale-topper was eventually knocked down to the Scottish-based Longbank herd.

Simmental

The top Simmental price also came at a draft sale. However, this was held in conjunction with the society premier in October.

The draft from Garret Behan saw a top of €18,000 for this year’s national champion from Tullamore Show Clonagh Jubilant Fabulous.

This Kilbride Farm Dragoon-sired heifer is out of a Banwy T-Rex-sired dam. Secured by the Popes herd, this now sets a new female record price for a society sale.

Limousin

Top-priced bull and reserve senior champion at the May premier Limousin sale was Sliabh Felim Mourinho which sold for €11,000. \ Alfie Shaw

Top of the Limousin breed was achieved at the society’s May sale in Roscrea, when Sliabh Felim Mourinho sold for €11,000.

This August 2017-born bull was bred by Sean Ryan and is a son of Kaprico Eravelle. Secured by the Maraiscote herd in Scotland, Mourinho stood reserve senior champion in the pre-sale show.

Charolais

Top-priced Charolais bull Bud Orpheus which sold to Dovea Genetics for €11,500. \ Alfie Shaw

Dovea Genetics secured the top-priced Charolais of 2019 for its stud in Tipperary. First-prizewinner at the Christmas Cracker in December, Bud Orpheus was brought out by debutant exhibitor Conor O’Neill. Sired by Doonally New, he is out of a Pirate-bred cow.
