The Aberdeen Angus northern club hosted its first sale of the year in Dungannon last week, with prices hitting 5,200gns. This price was achieved by the overall champion bull Richhill Rusty from the Lamb family.

Tapped out by judge Barry Smith of the Lawsonsford herd, he is sired by 6,500gns Keirsbeath Kingsland R537, while his dam is out of SAV Brave 8320. Following a frenzy of bidding, Rusty was eventually knocked down to James Thompson.

The Matchett family were next in the money when they sold Birches Lord Harrison for 3,700gns. This May 2018-born bull is out of the herd’s stock bull and former all-Ireland champion Cheeklaw Emlyn. Out of the herd’s Lady Hilda line, he was secured by Michael O’Brien.

Two bulls found new homes at 3,200gns. First up was the third-prizewinner Old Glenort Eric from James Porter. This Carlhurlie Gentilex son is out of a The Moss Quebec-bred dam. Matching him at the money was Kitariff Dorian U111 from Kenneth Bready. This bull was homebred on both sides and placed second in the pre-sale show.

One bid behind and selling for 3,100gns was Coltrim Edmundo U003 from Neville and Ivan Forsythe.

This October 2018-born bull is sired by Wedderlie Ergo and is out of an Oakchurch Duster-bred dam.

The day’s reserve overall champion came in the form of the May 2018-born Sess Eagle U923.

Bred by Margaret Buchanan, he is sired by Bunlahy John G, while the dam goes back to Netherton Mr Brazilian. He was eventually knocked down to Linton Selfridge at 3,000gns.

Overall, 12 of the 15 bulls forward met trade to average £3,167, up £122 on the year.
